Blade' battery used in BYD vehicles |
Kathmandu. BYD's official seller Cymex Inc. and BYD India's joint project has completed the nail penetration test of the blade battery. The test was conducted on the occasion of the Auto Expo 2023 held in New Delhi, India.
In this test, the company used NCM battery and BYD blade battery. "During the test conducted inside the secure dome, when the NCM battery was punctured, it made a loud noise and fell. However, there is nothing that will cause the blade battery to catch fire or explode when a hole is made there, the company said.
Srirang Joshi, National Sales Head of BYD India has claimed that BYD is famous for its battery safety and range.
During the blade battery nail penetration test, its temperature reached 30 to 60 degrees centigrade. However, the NCM battery reached 300 to 400 degrees. If the temperature does not increase, the blade battery will not explode and there will be no smoke. On the other hand, the NCM battery was dead.
Each cell in a blade battery is 96 cm long, 9 cm wide and only 1.35 cm high. The company said that when it is made into a battery pack, it will be mixed and placed in the 'cell to pack system'. So the battery becomes thin and long battery pack.
Blade batteries achieve 50 percent higher volumetric energy density (VED) than traditional lithium ion phosphates. That is, a lot of energy can be obtained from a small size. The main advantage of the blade battery is that it can extend the charging cycle to 3000. Therefore, the company says that a single battery pack can cover up to 1.2 million kilometers.

The company claims that it takes 33 minutes to charge this battery from 10 percent to 80 percent through a fast charger. The blade battery used by BYD in the Han model has a range of up to 605 kilometers on a single charge, which has been certified by NIDC.
